Detox At Home | Detox Maintenance Diet

Below is a selection of recipes for your DIY home detox program

Healthy soups and juices are essential for a successful detox. They contain many healing properties that will help your body to regain its vitality and energy. Below you will find several basic soup and juice recipes suitable for the detox and wellbeing stages. Warm, hearty soups are fantastic in the cold winter months, while in summer enjoy the refreshing selection of fresh juices or cleansers.

SOUPS

Anti-Oxidant Alkaline Soup Cold Spinach and Leek Soup
Chickpea, Lentil and Bean Soup Vegetable Broth

 

JUICES

Apple and Pear Blend Fruit Smoothie
Apple Mint Drink Papaya Anti-Oxidant Tonic
Banana, Papaya and Nectarine Cleanser Watermelon Cleanser
Fresh Orange and Pineapple Cleanser  

 

SOUPS

Anti-Oxident Alkaline Soup

Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped carrot - 1/2 cup chopped broccoli
- 1 cup chopped celery - 1/2 cup chopped cauliflower
- 1/2 cup chopped parsley - 1/2 cup fresh or frozen peas
- 1/2 cup chopped brown onions - 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup chopped pumpkin or sweet potato  

Method
Put all the ingredients in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 30-40 minutes. Add fresh herbs to taste: a bay leaf, cumin or rosemary. If you find the soup is too bland, add some chicken stock. Add extra water to make the consistency to your taste. In winter months add turnips, zucchini, parsnip and brussels sprouts. This is excellent for anyone following the liver and bowel detox.

Chickpea, Lentil and Bean Soup

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil - 300g can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
- 2 large red onions, chopped - 1/2 cup red lentils
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed - 5 cups vegetable stock
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin - 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric - 1 bunch spinach, washed and roughly chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground sweet paprika - 1/3 cup fresh mint leaves
- 300g can butter beans, rinsed and drained  

Method
Heat the oil in a large saucepan over a low heat, add onion, garlic and spices. Stir for a few minutes. Stir in the chickpeas, beans, lentils, stock and lemon juice. Simmer and cover for 20 minutes until lentils are soft. Add spinach for the last 5 minutes of cooking. Sprinkle with fresh mint before eating. This soup can be used for those on any detox program and during the maintenance diet.

Cold Spinach and Leek Soup

Ingredients
- 1 bunch spinach, washed and roughly chopped
- 3 medium potatoes, washed and peeled (optional)
- 1 small bunch leeks, cut into small pieces

Method
Place all the ingredients in a pot and cover with water. Bring to the boil, then simmer until the potatoe is cooked. Push the soup through a sieve. The consistency should be quite thick. This soup is excellent for the digestive system.

Vegetable Broth

Ingredients
- 2 brown onions
- 3 carrots
- 3 sticks celery
- 1 small bunch of parsley
- 1 clove garlic (optional)

Method
Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan and cover with 6 to 8 cups of water. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 30 minutes. Strain the liquid and drink anytime during the detox. Be sure not to consume any fresh juice one hour before or after drinking the soup, to optimise the nutrients. If you are feeling in need of extra sustenance, leave the vegetables in the broth or eat them separately.

JUICES

Apple and Pear Blend

Ingredients
- 2 apples, sliced
- 2 pears
- 1 small bunch of grapes

Method
Combine all the ingredients in a juicer or blender. Alternate the apple and pear blend with the fresh orange and pineapple cleaner. For those on the sugar detox, this blend can be used only two to three times a day. During the sugar detox, include the vegetable broth, hot or cold, to reap the full benefits.

Apple and Mint Drink

Ingredients
- 2-3 apples, sliced
- 2 sprigs of fresh mint

Method
Combine apples and mint in a juicer or blender. This drink is very beneficial for a sluggish digestive system.

Banana, Papaya and Nectarine Cleanser

Ingredients
- 1 nectarine, peeled and stoned
- 1/4 papaya, peeled and deseeded
- 1 banana

Method
Blend all the ingredients in a juicer adding half a glass of orange, lemon or lime juice. Ideal for assisting bowel problems and for children as a snack.

Fresh Orange and Pineapple Cleanser

Ingredients
- 3 oranges, peeled
- 1/4 whole pineapple, peeled
- 1 lime, peeled
- 1 sprig of fresh mint

Method
Place the fruit in a blender with the mint and combine. Drink immediately.

Fruit Smoothie

Ingredients
- 2 mangoes, peeled
- 1 nectarine, peeled and stoned (optional)
- 1 peach, peeled
- 2 apricots

Method
Place fruit in a blender and combine. To achieve the desired consistency, use a teaspoon of yoghurt, the juice of an orange or a glass of filtered water.

Papaya Anti-Oxidant Tonic

Ingredients
- 1/2 papaya, peeled and deseeded
- 1/4 rockmelon, peeled
- 1 mango, peeled
- juice of half a lime

Method
Blend all the ingredients in a blender and add some yoghurt if desired. Substitute any of your favourite orange fruits in this tonic, as a combination of these will give you the maximum anti-oxidant benefits.

Watermelon Cleanser

Ingredients
- 2-3 large pieces of watermelon, chopped, and seeds removed
- 2 sprigs of fresh mint

Method
Combine watermelon and mint in a juicer or blender. This juice will greatly assist the function of the kidneys and those with poor appetite. Be sure not to consume any other food or drink one hour before or after drinking the watermelon cleanser, for perfect digestion. Excellent for children or the elderly in summer.
